For achieving any goal in life, one needs to have
determination ,motivation, intellect, hardwork.But another thing that
cannot come from inside but holds utmost importance is the right guidance. We all need a person
in our lives to show us the right path, tell us what to do, put us out of our
dilemmas and miseries, and instill in us the confidence we need to achieve our
goals..
Fortunately,
in Uma Mudgal mam,we all found that guide.I heartily thank her for playing such
an important part in my success.
For cracking
any medical entrance exam,you need to have crystal clear concepts in physics
,chemistry and loads of practice is required.But you can never ever neglect
biology,not just because it covers a larger portion in some pmts or that it is
given preference during ties in ranks, but because it is your subject and
you have to pursue it for your entire lifetime
and not just for clearing the pmts.
Uma mam used
to make bio so much fun by giving day today examples and having long
discussions on some interesting topics rather than just sticking to the
syllabus….as she wanted us to have a vast knowledge. From her, we learned that
biology is not just about rote learning.
However at
the same time she stressed a lot on N.C.E.R.T and said that we should be
thorough with each line,each diagram,each table and each page of it.She made
sure that the image of each page of N.C.E.R.T was imprinted in our heads by
making us write notes by ourselves,practicing each diagram as much as possible
and even used to check them.In AIPMT, every question is from the N.C.E.R.T also
for boards, written practice is very important. Thus one should be very well
versed in N.C.E.R.T right from the first page to the last. If u practice Uma
mam’s advice …make a copy,write notes
from the NCERT, practice its diagrams and incorporate NCERT into your very
soul, I can assure you and give it in written that not only will you taste
success in your PMTS but also score great marks in boards. However the problem
with any class is that the students do not believe in the ‘writing bio ‘ part
and fail to make or maintain a bio notes copy . So I request every bio student
to make a copy,practice in it and get it checked,because bio is not just about
rote learning,and there can be no better way of learning bio than writing
it.The notes copy is a very good investment in the learning process.
And yes
though hardwork is very very important , what is also very important is
smartwork.You need to know how and when to srike the hammer , also at the right
place.”Be a smart worker rather than a hardworker “-that is what mam always
tells and it got imprinted in our minds n we all will continue to follow it not
only in academics but in all spheres of life.
Also,one of
her ways of making biology more interesting is taking us to the school garden
and asking us to search the web and obtain more information on some topics.This
makes bio so much fun, allows us to look beyond our books and become more
familiar with the topics.She also gave equal attention to the practicals and
used to say that a true biologist it one who has rich practical
knowledge.Another problem with students is that they fail to give importance to
practical work and their practical files and rather see it only as a medium to obtain 30 marks in
boards.They must acknowledge the fact that practicals are very important in
gaining knowledge …we learn a lot of facts from practicals and acquire that
knowledge which we can never get by being bookworms… and there lies the beauty
of practicals.
She also
encouraged us to participate in various Olympiads and inspired us to win
laurels to the school. This helped in the long run as nowdays our competition
is not just with the kids in our class but is at a national or rather
international level.
Uma mam’s
politeness, understanding nature, guidance, motherly behavior, encouragement
and inspiration to strive for excellence are her qualities I, or any student of
hers can never forget.I can never thank her enough for shaping my career and
the career of so many children.
